When it comes to diving holidays in Australasia and the Pacific Islands, there are some world-class underwater experiences to be had. This region stretches right across the Pacific Ocean, including the reefs of Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Palau, Micronesia, Fiji and French Polynesia. Big fish highlights range from scuba diving with common bottlenose dolphins, schooling reef sharks and great hammerheads to snorkelling with humpback whales or manta rays. Kaleidoscopic, untouched reefs await that are teeming with a plethora of marine life.

Australia itself is home to the largest barrier reef, the world-famous Great Barrier Reef, best experienced by liveaboard to make the most of the spectacular outer reefs. Heading west, Ningaloo Reef is the place to go for incredible marine life encounters including humpback whales, manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins and dugongs. Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands are particularly special for 40m+ visibility, diving and snorkelling on immaculate reefs overflowing with marine life experienced from well-run dive lodges or liveaboards.

Diving holidays in Palau and Micronesia add yet more variety to the scuba diving in Oceania, with thrilling drift dives and special spawning events in Palau and the best wreck diving on earth in Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon. Yap is one of the only places on Earth that divers are almost guaranteed sightings of oceanic manta rays. Fiji is often dubbed the soft coral capital of the world, and rightly so. Soft coral in all colours of the rainbow can be experienced on just one dive in the Somosomo Strait, whilst manta rays glide past in the blue. Last but by no means least, French Polynesia is the ultimate island-hopping diving adventure for those for the big stuff, including great hammerheads, common bottlenose dolphins and tiger sharks in Rangiroa and schools of over 100 grey reef sharks in Fakarava.
