For those looking to get stuck into the country’s best dive sites, we recommend heading straight to Gozo where many of the best dive sites can be accessed from the shore. Sunlight-filled caverns and swim-throughs, chimneys and caves greet divers and snorkellers, with marine highlights including wrecks and reefs alike.

Fish life is amongst the best in the Mediterranean with plenty of variety from Spanish mackerel and barracudas to amberjacks and moray eels. Turtles have been spotted in these waters so divers should keep their eyes peeled, and whilst diving on wrecks lying on a sandy bottom, rays are often sighted. Short-nosed seahorses blend in amongst seagrass blades, and cuttlefish and octopus are exciting inhabitants to encounter. Beyond the Reef

Scuba diving aside, there is so much to enjoy on both Gozo and in Malta. Quiet coastal inlets are ideal for a day’s relaxing on the beach, or guests can rent kayaks and explore the famous Blue Lagoon of Comino and its surrounding caves.

In Malta itself, there is an exciting food scene, with a mesmerising fusion of Italian and Arabic influences coming together to create some wonderful gastronomic delights. A visit to the ‘Silent City’ of Mdina merits a day trip, where the picturesque streets are dotted with small boutiques and cafes. Valletta, the island’s capital, has an intriguing history which a local guide can expand upon, from the Knights’ Templar to World War II bombings, and the history continues with diving some of these famous World War II wrecks. St. Julian’s Bay is home to some great bars and nightlife, or for those looking for something a little lower key, Valletta has an array of fantastic art galleries and museums.
