In Depth
Egypt is well known for its scuba diving in the Red Sea with the option for both land-based and liveaboard diving. We have selected a small portfolio of hotels with stunning house reefs, ideal for those looking to learn to dive or to avoid lengthy boat trips. The best dive sites in Egypt typically offer incredible visibility, pristine hard corals and clouds of red anthias as a backdrop, with turtles, Napolean Wrasse and even dolphins cruising by. Liveaboard diving trips take scuba divers further offshore, with a chance of seeing some larger pelagic marine life such as oceanic white tip, thresher and hammerhead sharks.
Although in the same geographical region, scuba diving holidays in Oman are contrasting to those in the Red Sea. The water is much greener, packed with plankton, meaning lower visibility but resulting in a wealth of marine life. Healthy coral reefs house octopus, moray eels, brightly coloured nudibranchs and turtles in the Musandam Peninsula and Daymaniyat Islands. Salalah and the Mirbat Islands, in the south of the country, have some of the country's best dive sites with thriving kelp forest ecosystems. The shores of Oman are also nesting sites for green and hawksbill turtles: at Reefscape Travel we know the best spots to be in with a chance of witnessing them hatch and dash for the ocean.
Beyond the Reef
Diving holidays to the Middle East can be easily combined with many of the wonders to be seen above the waves. Before heading to the Red Sea, explore ancient Egypt on a Nile Cruise sandwiched between luxurious stays in Aswan and Luxor. Dine out under the stars in the desert of Oman in a luxurious tented camp or head into the mountains for the spectacular scenery 2000m above sea level. For the adventurous, head into the largely unexplored Empty Quarter from Salalah - a mesmerising, expansive desert with UNESCO heritage sights along the way.
