Alami Alor
"Alami Alor is home to quite simply some of the best diving on Earth – ideal for macro and muck enthusiasts as well as those looking to encounter larger pelagic species" - India, Reefscape Travel Director
Overview
Alami Alor is something very special indeed. This tiny gem of a resort caters perfectly to those looking to explore a new frontier of diving. Particularly great for those who have already experienced the Indonesian hotspots and searching for something unique. The diving is outstanding and Alami Alor’s location unparalleled in the region.
In Depth
Set up by Lauren and Max, themselves passionate divers, this resort has been built with the diver in mind. With just seven bungalows dotted along the waterfront, the blend of simplicity and excellence means divers have everything they want and nothing more. The bungalows are tastefully decorated and small touches like outside access to the open-air bathrooms to hose down your dive gear remind you that this has been designed for divers. Each of the bright and airy rooms has air conditioning, a hammock to lounge in as the sun sets, and a small swathe of private pebble beach. Dining at Alami Alor is family style (around one table), giving divers to exchange stories and discuss the diving sights of the day. The food is fresh and varied, showcasing traditional Indonesian dishes and packed with flavour.
The Diving
The diving setup from Alami Alor is incredibly slick and full valet service diving. Your kit will be taken care of from the moment of arrival at the resort, and daily dives are planned around the tides. We can recommend the best time of year and tie in with the moon cycle for the best diving experience. Up to three guided boat dives are available per day as well as unlimited unguided house reef dives. This is a two-tank morning coral or muck dive followed by either an afternoon or a night muck dive.
The house reef is excellent for diving and snorkelling. There are no courses on offer, as this is a resort for more experienced divers. The dive guides are exceptional with an intimate knowledge of the local reefs, so will be able to assist divers to see any bucket list creatures (within reason!). Nitrox fills are available for certified divers as well as 15l tanks.
Beyond the Reef
There is no doubt that diving and snorkelling are the main reason to visit Alor, so if you are looking for beach time relaxation then we’d recommend visiting elsewhere. Your time here will likely be spent underwater and then relaxing by the sea in the evenings. Excursions into the local village can be arranged where guests can learn about the traditional weaving practices of the region.
