Buena vida
"Buena Vida is a great little bolthole tucked away in the greenery of Malapascua Island. Just a few minutes walk from the dive centre, this is the spot for divers and snorkellers looking for a quiet spot" - India, Reefscape Travel Director
Overview
Buena Vida, the sister property to the beachfront Ocean Vida, is nestled among lush tropical gardens allowing guests a quiet haven in which to relax when not exploring the reefs around Malapascua. This sleepy island is just 2.5km long and has a decidedly relaxed feel and is one of the world’s best destinations for virtually guaranteed encounters with thresher sharks.
In Depth
The resort is comprised of just 8 garden rooms and 2 family huts which have their own private terraces on which to relax after a day’s diving. Wellness is at the heart of all things in the resort, with a generous Sanctuary Spa and daily yoga classes. The on site restaurant serves a fresh and varied daily breakfast and guests can wander down to Bounty Beach to enjoy dinner at Ocean Vida only around 100m away. The rooms all have air conditioning and en suite bathrooms and are tastefully decorated in a contemporary design with pale wood features and pops of brighter colours. Each private terrace has its own hammock for guests to relax in.
The Diving
Diving is arranged by Sea Explorers which is located just 100m away on Bounty Beach. This large dive centre has racked up over 30 years’ experience and has some of the best divemasters and instructors in the business. With up to 4 dives per day, guests can enjoy dawn thresher shark trips to Monad Shoal as well as a single tank morning, single tank afternoon and a dusk/night dive option. Excursions are frequently made to nearby Gato Island and Kalanggaman Island and make for a great day trip. Sites are accessed from the centre’s two spacious bangka boats and divers of all experience levels are welcomed, with groups being allocated depending on ability. Nitrox is available for certified divers and a full range of PADI courses.
Beyond the Reef
When guests aren’t diving they can make the most of the wide array of spa treatments available at the on-site Sanctuary Spa or enjoy some morning yoga. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards can be hired for those looking to explore on their own, and a wander around the island allows guests to experience local life on laidback Malapascua.
