In Depth

Four Seasons have put their own stamp on Desroches since taking over in 2016 and their tranquil aesthetic matches the environment perfectly with natural tones paired with bold prints and rustic Balinese accents. The suites and villas all have private pools and direct beach access and are nestled among swaying palm trees and perched in front of white powder sand and turquoise waters. There are two restaurants on the island offering different cuisines with Claudine specialising in Mediterranean flavours, and the Lighthouse showcasing the best of local fresh-caught seafood and grilled meats. Lighthouse is particularly spectacular with spanning views out over the tranquil Indian Ocean.

The Diving

Blue Safari run the dive centre on the island and can guide divers around the 18+ local dive sites near the island, which comprise of sloping reefs, impressive overhangs, dramatic drop-offs and swim throughs. The unique topography of this area means that divers will not get bored no matter how many dives they intend to do during their stay. The coral quality is among the best in the country, and there are plenty of pelagic and large reef species cruising this water including lemon sharks, vast stingrays, eagle rays, nurse sharks, tuna, barracuda, wahoo and more.

A full array of courses are on offer at the dive centre and conditions are ideal for beginners or more experienced divers. For something particularly special, we would recommend chartering a dive boat for the day and heading out to St. Joseph where the coral is pristine and the reefs just teeming with life. This is a great spot for manta sightings, with the Manta Trust being set up in the atoll to monitor the movements and behaviour of these gentle giants. For the surface interval, we will arrange an amazing set up on a deserted perfect powder sand beach to enjoy a Four Seasons picnic prepared for you from the deli.

Beyond the Reef

With 14km of perfect powder white sand beaches to explore, this is a beautiful location in which to relax. Bikes can be borrowed to beetle your way around the island where private picnics can be set up in secluded spots. Guests can take out a kayak at sunset and bob around in the placid waters where turtles will pop up for air around you. A visit to the tortoise sanctuary is a must, with the chance to get up close to these extraordinary giants.

The fishing around Desroches is also some of the best in the world, so anglers and deep sea fishing enthusiasts alike can spend the day with Blue Safari’s expert guides. Tropicsurf are stationed on the island for surfers to make the most of the waves. There is also a fantastic spa, anti-gravity yoga and of course the chance to kick back and read a book in this, one of the most picturesque islands imaginable. There is so much to enjoy whether you are seeking relaxation and peace, or adventure and exploration.
