Overview
Mermaid II is a fantastic liveaboard with an experienced crew operating in Indonesia’s most exciting diving and snorkelling destinations. This is the ideal boat for those looking to experience affordable luxury and whose focus is on diving as much as possible.
In Depth
Having a steel hull, as opposed to being a traditional wooden Indonesian phinisi boat, Mermaid II can cut through the water better, allowing more stability for long crossings, which makes her the ideal boat for adventurous trips to far flung destinations. There are 9 cabins on board, with all bar one being above deck. Her cabins are spacious and bright with en-suite bathrooms for all. Food is served family style in the indoor dining area with a variation of Asian and Western dishes. It is plentiful and delicious!
The Diving
The diving and snorkelling on board are organised impeccable by the professional and friendly crew. There is a spacious dive deck where each diver or snorkeller has their own area to get into their kit – the team will set this all up for guest right down to placing fins on feet. Diving is done in small groups of 4, grouped by ability and experience to allow for maximum bottom time. Two inflatable tenders are used to ferry divers and snorkellers to the sites.
Generally dives are 70 minutes long so plenty of time to appreciate the underwater sights. There will be up to 4 dives per day; a two-tank morning, one in the afternoon and a night dive most nights. The dive guides are enchanting and exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to the reefscape, knowing exactly where to find the tiny critters. Nitrox is available on board for certified divers at an additional cost. A selection of courses can be completed during your trip for those who wish.
Beyond the Reef
All trips from the Mermaid II will include land excursions for those who wish to join and experience some of the top side highlights of the cruising region. Massages can be arranged and there is also a library and lounge area to relax and read a book or edit photos.
