Palau Siren
"Custom built for divers and with a maximum of 16 guests per trip, this is the best luxury liveaboard in Palau. Add to this spawning trips and blackwater diving and there is no doubt it should be on every divers' bucket list" - Louisa, Reefscape Travel Director
Overview
The Palau Siren is the only phinisi-style liveaboard that can be found in Palau, reminiscent of these much-loved traditional Indonesian liveaboards and indeed built on Sulawesi in Indonesia. Launched in 2012, the liveaboard was built by divers for divers and is the best luxury liveaboard experience in Palau. Add to this their very special bumphead parrot fish or red snapper spawning trips, and this quickly becomes one of the most exciting diving liveaboards on the planet.
In Depth
The Palau Siren is handcrafted from ironwood and teak, spanning 40m in length with just eight cabins so ample space for up to 16 divers to relax in comfort whilst enjoying some world-class diving. Six of the cabins are twin and two can be set up as double or twin, and all have en-suite bathrooms with hot water, individually controlled air-conditioning and even bathrobes for an added bit of luxury!
Across the vessel there are plenty of communal areas to relax between dives including the Sky Longe equipped with sun loungers, the main saloon with cocktail bar and an outdoor dining area covered with an awning. This is a feature we particularly love, providing an amazing setting for all meals which consist of a light breakfast before the first dive, then a full breakfast, lunch, dinner and plenty of snacks in between. There is always plenty of choice including international and locally inspired cuisine.
The Diving
Naturally, the dive deck on the Palau Siren is one of its key features and is both spacious and comfortable. The vessel is extremely photography friendly, with designated areas for charging and prepping camera and video equipment. A typical day onboard will allow for up to four dives a day: three dives spaced throughout the day and then a sunset or night dive before dinner.
The boat has two fibreglass dive tenders used to take guests to and from the dive sites, with the tender drivers providing plenty of assistance to divers both with their equipment and getting out of the water after the dives. Nitrox is offered onboard free of charge and specialist diving including spawning trips of bumphead parrotfish or red snapper and blackwater diving are offered.
Beyond the Reef
If divers can tear themselves away from the spectacular dive sites of Palau, the Palau Siren has kayaks that can be taken out to explore the stunning lagoons and scenery as well as the option for massages. They also offer optional tours above the waves including a speedboat trip to the incredible Rock Islands, snorkelling in the world-famous Jellyfish Lake and some amazing photo opportunities. A tour to Peleliu Island is also offered, taking approximately two hours visiting the remnants of WWII battles which took place on the island.
